Feyenoord v Roma - BBC Sport

Publish date: 2024-08-14
  • Feyenoord and Roma will face each other in a European knockout tie for the third time in three seasons, after Roma won the 2021/22 UEFA Europa Conference League final against the Dutch outfit, before I Giallorossi overcame Feyenoord by a 4-2 aggregate scoreline at the quarter-final stage of last season’s UEFA Europa League (W1 L1).

  • Prior to winning the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League trophy against Feyenoord in 2021/22, Roma had only twice previously faced Feyenoord in European competition, with the Italians earning victory in a UEFA Europa League last-32 tie by an aggregate scoreline of 3-2 in 2014/15 (W1, D1).

  • Including last season’s unsuccessful UEFA Europa League final on neutral ground, Roma have won just one of their last eight games on the road in European competition (D4, L3), with that sole victory coming on MD1 of this season’s UEFA Europa League campaign against Sheriff Tiraspol (2-1).

  • After losing their final three matches of this season’s UEFA Champions League, Feyenoord could lose four straight games in European competition for the first time since a seven-game losing streak that was split between the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League (L2) and the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League (L5).

  • Roma’s Romelu Lukaku has only failed to score in one of his last 17 UEFA Europa League appearances, with the Belgian netting 20 times across that spell: since the 2009/10 UEFA Europa League rebrand, only Radamel Falcao (30), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (29) and Aritz Aduriz (26) have scored more goals in the competition than Lukaku (25).
