Saints defensive end Cam Jordan is facing a police investigation for allegedly getting into a scuffle at a New Orleans nightclub early Sunday morning, police confirmed to the Times-Picayune on Tuesday evening. A police spokesman said the scuffle was with another man but did not give any other teammates.

Sources at the scene at the Republic nightclub, however, told New Orleans’ CBS affiliate WWL-TV that the minor fight began after Jordan swatted the man’s female companion on the butt and then accidentally sprayed champagne on the couple.

“Detectives are reviewing surveillance video and the investigation is ongoing,” NOPD spokesman Tyler Gamble said (via the Times-Picayune). “No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made at this point.”

Saints Coach Sean Payton confirmed on Wednesday that he was “aware” of the investigation and added that the team is also “gathering the information.”

“I’m anxious to find out more,” Payton told reporters (via WWL-TV). “But at this time, I don’t know all the details.”

Jordan, a first-round draft pick in 2011 by the Saints, signed a five-year, $60 million contract extension with New Orleans in June. Last season, he tallied 51 tackles, 7.5 sacks and one interception.
